Racing for a good cause: OPC meets Schmetterling e.V.
Last weekend two-time Le Mans winner Manuel Reuter and racing legend Joachim "Jockel" Winkelhock took some time of their current day job at the Opel OPC Race Camp, where they are currently preparing a group of amateur race drivers for the 2010 24 hours of Nürbugring, to help collect donations for a good cause.
The Frankfurt/Main (Germany) based club "Verein Projekt Schmetterling e.V." had invited for a performance drive training at the Opel proving grounds in Dudenhofen. The intent was to raise funds for the department of psycho-oncology at the J.W. Goethe University Hospital in Frankfurf, that focuses on pyschologic treatment of cancer patients through all stages of their illness and is funded primarly through the club.
On Saturday morning prime minister of Hesse Roland Koch welcomed the guests and immediately afterwards went for a test run in the Opel OPC Race Corsa.
The over 50 participants got to enjoy a full day of ride and handling training, testing the latest fleet of OPC cars and receiving advice from Manuel, Jockel and the team of OPC Performance coaches.
In total almost 20.000 Euros in donations were collected during the weekend and judging by our pictures in the slide show all of the participants really enjoyed.
